Data sources

SkyMission uses and visualizes external data but is not its original publisher. Authoritative original information takes precedence in case of doubt.

This central overview contains sources that are actually used and explicitly identifies planned categories that are not yet integrated.

Map material

OpenStreetMap contributors / Nominatim

Use: Base maps and conversion of a device position into country, place, and where available a street.
Retrieval / update: Map tiles when displayed; reverse geocoding when a position is requested, with server-side caching.
License / copyright: Open Database License (ODbL) and the applicable service usage policy.

Satellite imagery

Use: Optional worldwide satellite layer in Flight Planning.
Retrieval / update: Map tiles when the satellite view is active. Coverage, date, and accuracy vary.
License / copyright: Esri service and data terms; specific attribution is shown on the map.

Weather data

Use: Current weather and environmental context in Risk Assessment, including temperature, humidity, precipitation, wind, and gusts.
Retrieval / update: Position-based request for a new assessment with short server-side caching.
License / copyright: The sources and licenses identified by Open-Meteo for the selected model apply.

Space weather

Use: Supporting indication of possible disruption to satellite-based positioning.
Retrieval / update: Planetary Kp index retrieved with short server-side caching.
License / copyright: US Government/NOAA data; original source notices and terms apply.

Interactive map display

Use: Technical display of maps, flight positions, and heatmaps. MapLibre is a software library, not the publisher of displayed data.
Retrieval / update: Open-source component delivered locally with SkyMission.
License / copyright: BSD 3-Clause License.

Aircraft and equipment data

Use: Technical reference, fleet management, planning, and historical reports.
Retrieval / update: Central model catalog and immutable snapshot when an assessment is saved.
License / copyright: Manufacturer information remains with its respective rights holders; the entering party is responsible for user-supplied data.

UAS geozones and airspace information

Use: Preparation and checking of imported zones in Risk Assessment; no official flight authorization is issued.
Retrieval / update: Central source registry, GeoJSON import, and time-stamped snapshots. EU, US, and CA profiles remain planned until a validated source is activated.
License / copyright: Documented separately for every source before activation.

Elevation and terrain context

Use: Supporting display of the approximate elevation at the operation location.
Retrieval / update: Retrieved with the position-based weather request.
License / copyright: The sources and terms identified by Open-Meteo for the underlying models apply.
